I spent part of the weekend in Philadelphia visiting one of my oldest friends. I didn’t realize until I read it in her blog, but apparently we’ve been friends for 14 years! It was such a wonderful weekend to reconnect with Anna and enjoy perfect autumn weather in a beautiful city! I was really impressed with Philadelphia. I hadn’t been there since my sixth grade field trip to see the Liberty Bell. I loved the tiny “streets” (my GPS told me to turn down a street that could only be described as a quaint alley with a sidewalk down the middle. I suppose a horse-and-buggy could’ve fit down it years ago, but I wasn’t about to try it in my car. Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be to get your car wedged in an alley of a strange city? I’d die!) and the vibrant autumn colors all around. We spent a lot of time walking around her neighborhood and I fell in love with Philadelphia’s unique flair.

This is Anna in front of the adorable little street that she and her husband dream of living on next year. Look at the adorable line-up of doorbells on the outer gate.

We popped into Anna’s favorite coffee shop, the Chapterhouse, on Sunday morning for delicious melange lattes and pumpkin-cranberry scones. Doesn’t it all look delicious! (And you can see my new bangs, too!)

Afterwards, we stopped into her favorite fro-yo place for the third visit of the weekend (they were sweet enough to let us in for visit #2 at 11pm on Saturday night since we stared longingly at the door with puppy dog eyes). We took a leisurely walk down to the farmer’s market and saw the most precious rottweiler who was incredibly proud of her Halloween costume and couldn’t get enough attention during her photo shoot.

It was so fun to see little kids dressed up in their Halloween costumes and even stone lions in clown costumes. Aren’t these pirate and caterpillar pumpkins adorable??

It was the perfect weekend to enjoy a new city and an old friend. I’m so incredibly thankful for dear friends–particularly those friendships that you can pick up where you left off, despite the time and distance apart. I’m also very thankful for the flexibility in my schedule and the means to travel and visit them. Thanks again for a great weekend, Anna. I’m thankful for our long-lasting friendship!
